Location
Whiteness, situated in the Scottish Highlands, lies on the southern shores of the Moray Firth.
• The vibrant and cosmopolitan City of Inverness is located 15 miles to the west of the site and has been identified as one of the fastest-growing business, social and recreational centres in the United Kingdom and Europe.
• Inverness is the Gateway to the West Highlands with the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness linking the city with the west coast, the Inner and Outer Hebridean Islands and beyond. Its central location also provides easy access to the east coast, the north coast, the North Sea and Scandinavia.
• The primary catchment area of Inverness is extensive with a population in the order of 290,000 with the city itself having a resident population of 70,000 and forecast of 11% of growth by 2030 increasing the population to 100,000.
• All of Scotland’s other major cities are easily accessed in a matter of hours by a well-served road, rail, air and sea network through some of the most beautiful and diverse scenery in the world. Glasgow, the industrial and cultural hub, is located 170 miles to the south-west of Whiteness. Edinburgh, the Ancient Historical Capital of Scotland, lies 160 miles to the south-east and Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe, lies 95 miles to the east.
• Access to Whiteness is from the B9092, a short distance from the A96 trunk road which links Inverness with Aberdeen.
• Inverness Airport lies 4 miles to the west of Whiteness. The terminal administers over 330 scheduled flights per week to a variety of destinations throughout the UK and Europe.
