The Whiteness site at present - beach with tide line and foreshore with derelict buidings in the distance

Site Clearance and Preparation

During 2005, the Company secured consent to demolish the site, and is presently engaged in cleaning and
clearing it to the highest standards by sustainable means.

The construction sheds that McDermotts built at Whiteness were amongst the largest in Western Europe at the time. The Deck Assembly building in particular, which was over a hundred feet high, and had a floor area of seven acres, became a famous local landmark.

Currently, all the buildings are being systematically demolished; and all the metals from the site are being recovered by a specialist firm of demolition experts, and sent further afield for recycling.
